Toolbox talk app for construction sites

A toolbox talk is a five-minute conversation with a record attached. SubbieSure keeps both: the topic, who delivered it, who attended and which project it belongs to.

What is a toolbox talk?

A toolbox talk is a short, regular safety discussion held with the crew before or during a shift. It covers a specific hazard, a recent incident, a new piece of plant or a change to the way work is being done. The value is in the conversation; the record is what shows it happened and who was there.

How does SubbieSure record toolbox talks?

SubbieSure records toolbox talks with attendance captured against the talk, so the record shows who attended rather than who was on the roster that day. Talks sit against the project, alongside SWMS, prestarts, incidents and hazards, so a site's consultation record builds up in one place.

How is attendance captured on site?

Crew members sign on from their own device. Sign-off can be enforced at prestart, so the talk and the current SWMS are signed before work starts rather than collected at the end of the week. The mobile apps work offline and sync when coverage returns, which matters in basements, tunnels and regional sites.

Can we use our own toolbox talk topics?

Yes. SubbieSure supports custom forms, so your own talk templates and topic library can be used. Talks can be scheduled around the work planned for the week rather than picked at random on the morning.

What should a toolbox talk record contain?

At a minimum: date, project, topic, who delivered the talk, the hazards or controls discussed, and who attended with a signature or digital sign-off. If the talk responds to an incident or a new hazard, reference the report. Keep it factual and short; a record that took longer to write than the talk is a record nobody keeps.

Does a toolbox talk record prove consultation?

It evidences that a discussion took place and who took part. Whether that satisfies a duty to consult depends on the jurisdiction, the contract and whether the discussion was genuine. Software records the conversation; it does not hold it.
