Best construction management software in Australia: choose by fit
There is no single best platform for every builder, subcontractor, service business and crane fleet. Start with the work you need to run, then compare a real job across the appropriate shortlist.
How this guide selects products
This is a non-exhaustive shortlist of the products discussed in our comparison series, including vendors suggested by our audience. Order is not a score, market-share claim or independent ranking. We checked public official descriptions, not private contracts or every product in a hands-on trial. A blocked source is identified rather than filled in with guesses.
Match the shortlist to your workflow
Use the vendor’s stated scope as a starting point, not a promise of fit. Several products span more than one category.
- Buildxact — Estimating through job delivery
- Buildxact’s help centre documents estimating, takeoffs, job management, scheduling, purchase orders, actual costings, outgoing invoices, integrations and the Onsite companion app. It is not accurate to describe it as estimating-only. Official source The marketing homepage was blocked during this check; the official help centre was accessible. No current numeric price is asserted.
- HammerTech — Construction safety coordination
- HammerTech presents a construction safety platform covering onboarding, worker information, safety plans, permits, equipment compliance, inspections, incidents and reporting. Its site explicitly includes subcontractors among its audiences. Official source The homepage describes no per-seat fees. That is a pricing model statement, not a total project quote or evidence that SubbieSure is cheaper.
- 1Breadcrumb (Breadcrumb) — Site attendance and safety visibility
- The official site now presents the brand as Breadcrumb. It lists attendance, inductions, site alerts, evacuations, prestarts, toolbox talks, access controls, SWMS, insurances, permits, SDS and plant inductions. It also lists subcontractor solutions. Official source The legacy search phrase 1Breadcrumb is retained in this URL; the current site branding is Breadcrumb.
- Simpro — Connected trade-business workflows
- Simpro’s Australian help guide documents Premium, Mobile, integrations and add-ons including Digital Forms, Takeoffs, payments, fleet tracking and maintenance planning. The documented scope is broader than a simple scheduling tool. Official source The marketing site was blocked in this check; the Australian official help guide was accessible. Confirm current commercial terms directly.
- AroFlo — Trade jobs, assets and project administration
- AroFlo’s official site describes job management for trades and field service, including project management, quoting, scheduling, purchasing, timesheets, invoicing, inventory, assets and WHS/OHS compliance. It explicitly lists construction as an industry. Official source
- ServiceM8 — Job-to-payment field service
- ServiceM8’s Australian site lists job management, scheduling, quoting, invoicing, payments, electronic forms, asset management and accounting integrations. The fetched page advertises both iOS and Android apps. Official source Published plans use job allowances and other limits. This page does not equate those plans with SubbieSure’s active-user tiers or infer a like-for-like price advantage.
- SafetyCulture — Frontline operations and inspections
- At the time checked, safetyculture.com redirected to Mitti, branded “Mitti (by SafetyCulture)”. The destination lists inspections, training, issue reporting, document management, contractor management, assets, investigations and analytics. Official source The source redirect was observed on 3 November 2026. Verify current brand, product and contract details directly; do not assume the older iAuditor label defines the whole platform.
- Assignar — People, plant and field-to-finance records
- Assignar’s site describes construction operations covering people and equipment scheduling, time tracking, field forms, safety and compliance, job costing, progress tracking and reporting. Its positioning explicitly includes civil contractors and specialist trades. Official source
- Buildertrend — Builder and subcontractor evaluation
- Buildertrend’s official marketing pages were blocked from this research environment. We have not verified its current feature set or pricing for this comparison. Use the vendor’s own demonstration and written proposal rather than treating an unverified checklist as fact. Official source Verification limitation: the official site returned HTTP 403. This is an evaluation guide, not a verified feature-by-feature review of Buildertrend.
- Procore — Project collaboration and commercial scope
- Procore’s Australian site describes preconstruction-to-closeout construction management, project execution, cost management, resource management and project lifecycle management. It explicitly serves head contractors, developers and subcontractors. Official source Procore is not described here as unsuitable for subcontractors or inherently more expensive. Obtain a scope-specific proposal before comparing total cost.
- Visual Dispatch — Crane hire, dispatch and fleet workflow
- Visual Dispatch identifies itself as software for rental crane service providers and the crane hire and rigging industry. Its site lists quoting, drag-and-drop scheduling of cranes, equipment, employees and jobs, eTickets/eDockets, payroll/timecards, purchasing, invoicing, fleet maintenance and ERP integration. Official source Visual Dispatch’s site states it is part of the RapidWorks family. SubbieSure is not presented as a verified replacement for specialist crane-dispatch or ERP functionality.
- SiteDocs — Safety forms and follow-through
- SiteDocs’ official help centre documents its admin panel, mobile/web/desktop apps, forms and follow-ups, incident-document folders, equipment management, workforce management for external workers, analytics/reporting and Workflow Studio safety automation. Official source The public marketing site was blocked, but the official help centre was accessible. Current pricing and commercial entitlements were not independently verified.
- BuildPass — Estimating, site management and construction finance
- The BuildPass site reached from buildpass.com.au describes estimating, finance and site management. It lists scheduling, drawings, site diaries, inductions, SWMS and defects, alongside takeoff, estimating, procurement, budgets, subcontracts, claims and invoices. Official source BuildPass is not treated here as induction-only or safety-only. The source presents a broader construction management platform; confirm region, modules and commercial scope.
Where SubbieSure belongs in the shortlist
SubbieSure is built for Australian construction subcontractors. Our published product scope includes projects, people records, licences and competencies, scheduling, timesheets, documents, digital SWMS, prestarts, toolbox talks, incidents and investigations. Review the product guide and feature overview rather than assuming every advertised vendor capability has a SubbieSure equivalent.
We do not assert feature parity for estimating, specialist dispatch, accounting, payments or external integrations. Bring those requirements to a demonstration and obtain written confirmation before deciding to migrate.
Use one job as a repeatable evaluation
- Set up a real project and invite a supervisor and worker with different permissions.
- Onboard the worker and verify a licence, induction and current safety statement.
- Schedule a shift, capture hours and complete a site record with photos.
- Change the job: add a hazard, a variation or a revised drawing. Track who sees and approves it.
- Retrieve the record for payroll, commercial review or audit. Confirm the exact export or integration.
- Repeat required steps on your actual mobile devices and in poor coverage.
For specialised estimating, fleet or finance requirements, add the relevant scenario from the vendor’s comparison page. Do not score a product against work it was never bought to perform.
Price the same scope
Do not compare headline fees without the same scope. Ask each vendor for currency, GST treatment, billing term, minimums, modules, worker/client access, setup, training, integrations and data export costs. This guide does not reproduce competitors’ numeric prices or claim SubbieSure is cheaper.
SubbieSure’s published monthly pricing is progressive per active user: the first 100 at AUD $25 each, users 101–200 at $20 each, and users above 200 at $15 each, excluding GST. Onboarding is included and a free one-month trial is advertised. Check current pricing and calculator and confirm the current offer before budgeting.
Paper, spreadsheets or a dedicated SWMS app?
A platform may not be the first change your business needs. Read our SWMS app, spreadsheet and paper comparison to separate the cost of recording work from the cost of keeping evidence current and retrievable.
See your workflow, not just a feature list
Book a SubbieSure demo with a real project, a current form and the people who will use it. Compare the result with each vendor’s demonstration before changing systems. Software supports records and workflows; it does not guarantee WHS compliance or replace competent supervision and site-specific risk assessment.
